Reliability

What good is a system if it isn't available 7 x 24 to work with the ESI?

Systems at Merlin Hosted are protected by MSync, our architecture that provisions multiple redundant front-end Web Servers, redundant SQL database servers, and redundant file servers to support you. MSync allows up to three pieces of hardware to totally fail and still provide users with uninterrupted service. When updates are needed we can literally take half the system off-line and perform the updates, then switch it back in and take down the other half for updates, without the users having an interruption in service. Even our firewalls, switches and load balancers are fault-tolerant!

During acceptance tests for our largest system we disconnected power to systems while customers monitored and used the site in order to prove they could continue to function with multiple hardware failures. Then we had to restore systems to prove they came back online gracefully, and replicated data that had come in while they were down. MSync is a robust, efficient architecture, and is used by all of our mission critical sites.

The focus on reliability is a consistent theme for us: our collocation center intelligently routes traffic among 6 backbone providers for redundancy and maximum performance, and our Support team receives high customer satisfaction ratings (as measured by an outside firm). Security

Merlin uses a top-notch secure datacenter.

Will your case data be safe from both external intrusion and inadvertent disclosure? Can you limit visibility to only certain individuals, and can you limit what certain individuals can do with documents?

Merlin uses an SAS 70 co-located facility with high security (including biometric sensors). Merlin Hosted systems require any external query to make two trips through firewalls before any data is returned. Any data coming off the Internet is filtered, and can only access a front-end web server for authentication and to determine access privileges, such as what records and what capabilities. Then the query for information itself has to go through a firewall again to protect the path from our web servers to our database and file servers, and the rules on that path are very stringent. The result is your case data is doubly insulated from the outside world.

Similarly, you have the ability to set up new cases, and to restrict which personnel get to view the case data, which objects are limited from all but a select few, and who can perform what indexing and review operations.
